Hair Loss Treatment

Hair loss can occur due to hormonal and nutritional factors, exposure to chemicals, genetic predisposition, systemic diseases, hair growth disorders, medications, psychological stress and scalp diseases. Hair loss in a healthy person can last up to 2 months.

Why Does Hair Loss Occur?

Each existing hair has a life cycle. Each hair lives for 4-6 years, then rests and then falls out. This hair loss is an extremely natural process and 50-100 strands of hair loss per day is considered normal. If more than this number falls out, if the amount of hair that comes to the hand during bathing has increased, or if 3-5 hairs come to our hand when we pull the washed and dried hair by hand, this situation should be taken seriously. Hair loss can have many different causes. The important thing is to identify this cause and make the appropriate treatment.

1-Genetic factors

The causes of hair loss in men and women are different. Hair loss in men is usually male pattern hormone-sensitive hair loss, which is genetic and occurs in more than 50% of the population. This type of hair loss is chronic. Baldness develops with advancing age and may eventually require hair transplantation. Supplementation treatments, mesotherapies and PRP treatment started at an early age slow down the rate of hair loss. It prolongs the time to baldness.

This type of hair loss is also seen in women. Especially people with a family history of baldness are at risk of hair loss. Today, male pattern hair loss, which starts at the age of 16-18, is more common in young girls. The reasons why this situation is more common than in previous years include excessive stress, unbalanced nutrition, prolonged starvation and hormonal problems. In the female type, success rates can be increased with the addition of hormonal treatments in addition to a treatment like in men.

2-Skin problems

Skin and internal diseases can also cause hair loss. Most skin-related hair loss occurs when skin diseases affect the scalp. If the hair is affected in diseases such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, lichen disease, excessively oily skin, fungal diseases, hair loss may be inevitable. Treatment of these spills is possible with the treatment of the underlying skin disease.

3-Wrong eating habits

Hair loss due to nutritional reasons is another common factor. After all, hair is a living organ and it needs nourishment and blood supply. Not eating a regular and balanced diet, prolonged fasting, monotonous nutrition and consuming foods with high carbohydrate content can eventually affect the hair and cause hair loss. The treatment is very practical and it is important to start eating a balanced diet.

4-Vitamin and mineral deficiency

Although there is no nutritional problem, the lack of vitamins and minerals necessary for hair in the blood is another reason for hair loss. If vitamins and minerals such as B12, vitamin D, folic acid, biotin, zinc, iron are low, the hair cannot be nourished and falls out. Even in the absence of iron deficiency, iron supplementation reduces hair loss. In these cases, the supplementation of the deficiency must be eliminated by consulting a specialist.

5-Hormonal problems

If the person has hormonal problems, menstrual delays or irregularities, increased hair growth, excessive acne, accelerated weight gain, if hair loss is added to these findings, hormonal hair loss can be mentioned.  A dermatologist should be consulted to determine the source of these problems with a blood test on the 2nd or 3rd day of menstruation. Hormonal treatments are effective in this type of hair loss.

6-Some internal diseases and drug use

Some internal diseases; thyroid gland diseases or drugs used for these diseases, rheumatic diseases, hormones used, weight loss pills, adrenal gland diseases, insulin resistance, diabetes, birth control pills and sometimes discontinuation of these control pills are other causes of hair loss. This condition must be thoroughly investigated by specialized doctors through examinations and tests.

If a sudden hair loss has started, surgeries performed in the last three months, febrile diseases, drug toxicities, blood loss, severe trauma may be among the reasons to be considered.

7-Delivery and chemotherapy process

Apart from all these, there are two specific causes of hair loss.

One is pospartum hair loss, which starts 2-3 months after childbirth. It is caused by hair that should have fallen out during pregnancy but did not fall out, suddenly falling out all together. Supplements to be made under expert control contribute to the elimination of the discomfort in this regard.
Another is hair loss in patients receiving chemotherapy. With the use of more modern drugs in recent years, this hair loss is less common, but it is a condition that tends to recover spontaneously when the treatment is completed.

8-Cosmetic factors

Increasing cosmetic habits are other factors that cause mechanical chemical and physical hair loss. In other words, tying the hair tightly, inner bonnets, blow-drying processes exposed to excessive heat, dyes, lighteners, straightening methods used to lighten the hair color cause hair loss by damaging the hair from the outside. In this case, the only treatment is to prevent the hair from being exposed to these treatments. Applying the necessary supplements and care procedures for the hair ensures that the desired appearance is regained.

9-Stress and depression

Excessive stress is another cause of hair loss as well as any other disease. Depression, anxiety, psychoses and the medications used in their treatment can affect the hair and cause hair loss.

Hair is a living organ that can be affected by many factors in daily life in a short time. When something goes wrong in a person's life, the individual should first weigh himself/herself in the light of this information and then seek help from a specialist if necessary. Because misguidance and hearsay information from the environment can cause patients to waste time. If there is an important underlying cause, diagnosis and treatment may be delayed. In addition, masks and mixtures applied unconsciously with the idea of preventing hair loss and regrowth of hair loss can cause more damage to the hair and cause irreversible damage.

Hair Loss in Men

Hair loss is more common in men than in women. The fact that hair loss is higher in men than in women is due to the fact that the enzyme 5 alpha reductase, which causes hair loss, is less in the body structure of women. Women have more aromatase enzyme instead of this enzyme. Since men are more affected by the problem of hair loss, women may be considered unlucky in this regard, since the products sold in the market are aimed at men. Because of the aromatase enzyme, these products cannot be effective in women. However, since hair transplantation methods are quite advanced, it will be a solution for everyone, men and women, who have this problem.

Hair Loss in Women

The biggest cause of hair loss in women is genetic factors.  Because of these factors, hair becomes thinner and tends to fall out. This situation can lead to problems that can lead to baldness in the later stages.

Anemia due to iron deficiency,
Hormonal imbalances,
A stressful life,
Thyroid hormone problems,
What happens after childbirth,
Pregnancy
Breastfeeding period,
Menopause process,
The use of birth control pills is seen as periods of increased hair loss in women. Factors such as perm, highlights and blow-drying in frequent dyeing processes applied to the hair cause hair loss in women.
